SPAM is not Bounced Back. It is deleted

If the messages you send appear to be SPAM, they will likely be deleted or marked as **SPAM** by the receiving Mail Transfer Agent and you will not be notified that the recipient did not receive the message.

Here are a couple of things you can do to avoid having your mail identified as SPAM.

  1. Use a reputable Internet Service Provider
  2. Always enter a "Subject" for your message.
  3. Never send messages as HTML or Rich Text Format (RTF).
  4. Always send messages as "Plain Text"
  5. Carefully follow the settings instructions issued by your Email provider.

Send Messages as Plain Text

One good way to help avoid being identified by SPAM filter daemons as a spammer is to send all your mail as text only.  That's how the pros do it. Leave the "emot-icons" for the children exchanging teen mail chatter at Yahoo and Hotmail.

If you are sending e-mail from within a corporation, enterprise or a small-to-medium sized business (SMB) it is likely a violation of your internal IT policies to send mail as HTML. Doing so poses a number of real risks and may cause your messages to be intercepted by SPAM filters.

It is safer, cleaner and more professional looking to send plain text email.

To set Plain Text as a default method for sending email using Microsoft Outlook Express 6:

1) select "Tools"

2) then select "Options"

3) Select "Plain Text" below Mail Sending Format.

4) Select "OK" at the bottom of the panel.

5) You are now ready to send clean mail in text only format.

Other Mail User Agents (MUA) like Outlook, Thunderbird, and Mozilla Mail are equally easy to configure.
